Why Bother? – Thought

I have been struggling recently (as many of you can probably tell by the diminishing blog posts) with the concept of “is the juice worth the squeeze?” If I am not seeing the results, is the struggle even worth it?

I thought that this would also serve as a good springboard when thinking about “DIY” projects; because I have been thinking alot about why more people don’t want to “do it themselves”. “DIY” is not as popular a search term as I thought it was, and my most popular blog post/YouTube video is actually the one about spray painting furniture (which is pretty easy).

We live in a world that seeks immediate gratification, and where hard work is not always what gets “the win”…so many people do not see how the “hassle” of learning how to do something is worth it if it is only going to save them a couple bucks?

That lead me to this thought (which conveniently ties into the logo/name of the blog); DIY projects are not all about the end result. Yes, I said it; while saving money and getting something accomplished is great, they aren’t the reason to do something yourself.

When you tackle a DIY project, it is about the journey AND the destination. You learn more about yourself as you figure out how to do something. You feel better after figuring out how to do something (the whole “Woah, look at me!” sensation). And you can use that knowledge to help other people if they need help. That’s a WIN/WIN/WIN/WIN!
